ABSTRACT

Along with understanding of risk factors, those tasked with assessing threat and risk of violence need to be aware of the protective factors that balance these and can create a defense against them. This chapter explores these protective factors and how they can offset the risk factors described in Chapter 3. The chapter lists protective factors and mitigating elements divided into the subgroups of environmental and emotional stability, social heath and connection, access to nonviolent outlets, empathy and connection, and positive social and individual action.
