ABSTRACT

Your responsibilities as an examiner do not end when the viva is finished or (if there is no viva) when the joint report has been signed. Examiners owe it to the doctoral student to be constructive and collegial after the event. This chapter discusses the roles of the examiners and the Chair in seeing the assessment and guidance process through to the end in a professional and civilised manner. This guidance may be immediate and in the face-to-face opportunity afforded by a viva, or it may be longer term.
