ABSTRACT

Today, it is possible to examine the Linguistic Relativity Hypothesis in ways that were not possible in the past. Among these is the study of computer-mediated communication, the comparison of computer-modeled languages with human languages, the consideration of artificially constructed languages, and an overall consideration of meaning in information systems. This chapter looks at these approaches as useful ones for examining and testing the premises of the LRH It also provides general conclusions on the importance of the hypothesis to the study of human thinking, as compared to artificial thinking.
