ABSTRACT

In the previous chapters, we highlighted the sui generis system of Geographical Indications introduced within the Indian IPR regime in order to recognize and protect unique agro-based as well as handicraft and handloom products. This chapter will shift the focus to several important policies and schemes structured around the preservation and promotion of the priceless handloom industry. In order to draw a conclusion on the impact of the various schemes and policies, this chapter will take a historical and analytical route. However, before detailing the central subject of this chapter, it is necessary to examine the core aspects that make up the handloom industry.
