ABSTRACT

Working with a colleague at Brock University and Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, focus groups were conducted with health-care workers and family members of patients with dementia and traumatic brain injury. Using a hybrid of ethnodrama and playbuilding, vignettes were created and recorded in a studio for distribution on the web and USB drives for use with students at Brock University and staff at Sunnybrook. Due to the pandemic, Mirror Theatre conducted online workshops and gave only one in-person workshop to staff the assist them in providing their own workshops. The normalization of violence, miscommunication, unreasonable expectations, and lack of time were some of the major themes. A shadow screen was used to depict the patients, providing a metaphorical representation.
