ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the local aspect of policing in England and Wales; it explains the policing structures, ranks, and how the recruitment processes are changing. It also critically examines the use of police volunteers, Police and Community Support Officers, and others in depth as these are a vital part of modern policing. The chapter also introduces a discussion surrounding the current structure for policing in England and Wales, and questions whether they are fit for purpose drawing the reader’s attention to the policing Vision document 2025 which is influential in forming future policing structures.
