ABSTRACT

For the policing structure in England and Wales to be successful, it has to work in partnership with many other agencies. There are a great deal of agencies, both publicly and privately owned, that work with the police in prevention of crime, detection of offences, and prosecution of offenders. This chapter considers those agencies that are primary partners of the police within their working structure. In particular, the chapter contains a critical examination of community safety partnerships, alongside the role and functions of the Crown Prosecution Service and Forensic Science arrangements. In a link to the previous chapter on accountability for the police, there is also a consideration of the accountability and performance of the CPS and Forensic Science arrangements, and some of the problems encountered by these agencies.
