ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the topic of event impact evaluation. The broad context for event impact evaluation is explored, as are available definitions, before an overarching framework that guides the impact evaluation process is discussed. Next, the chapter turns to discussion of specific methodological approaches to assessing economic and social impacts of events, also noting existing efforts towards advancing more holistic evaluation models. Throughout this chapter, the central focus remains firmly on designing and delivering credible impact evaluations that so often serve as an important basis for event managers and other stakeholders to build legitimacy, justify funding support, maintain community support, and argue for an event’s continued existence.
