ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the opportunities that mega-events present for a wide range of international business activities. We explore the influence of the geographic location, the infrastructure development, the cultural environment, and the host government’s support on the selection and potential benefits of hosting mega-events. Using the example of Dubai as the host of the 2020 World Expo, we highlight the potential advantages and challenges a “global city” may face when hosting such a special event and discuss how it can sustain these advantages.
