ABSTRACT
This chapter explores other national export schemes, with a particular focus upon leading export nations including Canada, the United Kingdom, France, South Korea, Sweden, Finland and Norway. It presents modifications of Craik’s model to usefully determine differences in current export policies of the several case study nations. The Patron model resembles more traditional arts models in the provision of government funding at arm’s length to recipient bodies and activities. The older Patron model—where the state funded classical and art musics, with perhaps selective funding of commercial music activity?—has been replaced by different forms of the Architect model that implies different roles for both industries and government. The Engineer model is best represented by the policies and structure of South Korea. Given its recurring emphasis on selective collaborations with specialist larger entertainment companies, South Korea also provides an example of the Elite Nurturer model working in tandem with Architect mechanisms.
