Introduction

This chapter discusses an important international standard that many organisations apply when implementing their quality management systems (QMSs), the ISO9001 standard. More than a million companies and institutions all around the world have international certification that their management systems fulfil the requirements of this standard. The history of this standard is reviewed in this chapter, together with its main ideas, structure and the most important requirements.
