ABSTRACT

This final chapter differs from the previous chapters of the book by focusing on sub-sections that are organised around the main findings of the historical analysis. The first six sub-sections focus on organisational structures, cultures, and attitudes of the leaders. The final four analyse the consequences that arose for the participating athletes from the flawed customs and principles. Within this framework, the last two decades of International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) governance under the presidencies of Lamine Diack and Sebastian Coe are analysed. This chapter shows that the historical beliefs and frameworks installed within the federation continue to influence the decision-making processes until the present day.
