ABSTRACT
The losses over a 40-year career are examined across different states and demographic groups. In 2018, women's losses over her 40-year working career were $10,194 annually. Women's losses over a 40-year working career are more than enough to buy a home in the US Not only does the gender pay gap differ by states, but so do women's losses over her working career. The National Women's Law Center 2019 state ranking provides women's losses over their working career of 40 years for each state using 2017 data. That is three-quarters of all states have losses between $300,000 and $499,999! This is staggering! to show women's losses over their working career in a different way, authors look at the number of years it takes women to catch up to men's earnings at age 60.
