ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the adjusted gender pay gap that controls for some of the variables that differ between men and women in the workplace to better measure the gender pay gap. It examines the controlled versus uncontrolled gender pay gap and then explore different research that estimates them. Using the hourly median wage data from the Current Population Survey Outgoing Rotation Group, the EPI found the unadjusted gender pay gap in 2015 to be 17.9%. Interestingly, the partially adjusted gender pay gap is higher than the unadjusted gender pay gap. The EPI found that the partially adjusted gender pay gap is 21.7%, which is higher than the unadjusted gender pay gap of 17.9%. The chapter examines the controlled versus uncontrolled gender pay gap.
