ABSTRACT

The Workflow Analysis Team (WAT) examines operational procedures, and how they dovetail with the Electronic Health Record (EHR), to identify and implement improvements. The WAT includes workflow analysts, superusers, and individual targets. The WAM and workflow analysts are permanent team members, serving all six hospitals. Targets, who are subject matter experts, and superusers are temporary members, varying by the workflow under analysis and associated EHR feature requiring configuration. Negative reinforcement removes or stops an adverse outcome in response to a desirable behavior. Establishing rewards for attempting to achieve something new motivates learning. If, because of change, new work is tough to do, managers must also allocate time where Targets develop and practice their new skills and responsibilities.
