ABSTRACT

In order to deliver workshops for parents, it was clear that schools were going to be the most obvious places to locate these sessions. One of the things we know about parents of teenagers is that some do feel shame or guilt about what is happening at home. Teenagers are good at making parents feel bad about their parenting. In some families, there can be a constant refrain on the subject of how parents are ruining the teenager’s life. The role of the school was going to be critical to the success of the project. To have a two-hour workshop for parents, for them to understand the key developmental stages of the teenage brain, it has been invaluable. The chapter concludes by considering the implications for schools in introducing the workshop for the parents of their students.
