ABSTRACT

For too long, the job of a solo video journalist has been viewed and defined in its simplest terms … at least by those who have never worked as one. The author recently surveyed nearly 100 do-it-all reporters about how they view their role. This chapter explores their responses – and the revelations that affect everyone in the industry. While most MMJs enjoy their jobs and believe they perform as well as traditional reporters and photographers, they also feel unsafe at times and overwhelmed at others.
