ABSTRACT

Aspiring video journalists who entered the business in the 1990s and 2000s saw few stable career paths in video journalism aside from local TV news. These days, those options have exploded, particularly for those who can produce meaningful work by themselves. In this chapter, the author speaks with several solo video journalists who have found fulfilling roles in uncommon places. Sarah Blake Morgan went from local TV to a video journalist position at the Associated Press, while Dougal Shaw shoots stories on his iPhone for BBC on-air and online.
