ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book summarises the policy and support programme literature covering green industry, separated into four complementary and to some extent overlapping regimes: pollution control, resource efficient and cleaner production, energy management, and chemical and waste management. It focuses on to summarise the policy and support programme literature covering green services, also separated into four regimes: environmental services, eco-industrial parks, eco-design, and materials recycling. The book reviews the quality of international databases for assessing the progress of green industrialisation in Sub-Saharan Africa countries between 2000 and 2018. The review includes all the industry-related Sustainable Development Goals targets and indicators. It questions the feasibility of meeting conventional economic, employment, and energy targets and proposes setting additional and more realistic targets based on past country experience.
