ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 covers the organization, jurisdiction, and functioning of courts in Rwanda. It mainly summarizes and explains the law regulating the organization and functioning of the judiciary in Rwanda as well as the law determining the jurisdiction of courts. More particularly, it discusses the composition and organs of the High Council of the Judiciary, the role and composition of the Judicial Organ Bureau, as well as the key structure and jurisdiction of the Rwandan court system. This system includes the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, High Court and its Chambers, Commercial High Court, Military High Court, Intermediate Courts, Commercial Court, Military Tribunal, and Primary Courts.
