ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the theme of the business of misery to the book as a means to describe the geopolitical motivations to generate war and conflict in countries with rich natural resources. It focusses on the concept of “geopolitical entrepreneurialism” as a means to show how the world’s superpowers are in relentless competition for these countries and stop at nothing to assist in their destabilisation. This chapter mixes documentary analysis with the observations and refugee testimonies to challenge awkward questions about exactly who and how they are benefitting from this human suffering and displacement by using Iraq as a case study.
