ABSTRACT

Terrorism has affected different parts of the world in varying degrees and in different ways. While it has become a fairly common phenomenon, terrorism has evolved in various phases, and so has the very definition of what constitutes “terrorism”. Suicide terrorism has mostly been referred to as a subset of terrorism, suicide terrorism can be seen to have replaced terrorism altogether. Although terrorism has long been part of international politics, there is yet to come about a convincing explanation for the growing phenomenon of suicide terrorism. Terrorism is the use or threat of use of violence by non-state actors in order to instil fear in a specified target, which includes innocent civilians. Terrorists work on intimidation and fear directed towards the audiences and the creation of this fear can involve killing innocent civilians, political assassinations, or even blowing oneself up in order to make the attack more lethal.
