ABSTRACT

The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist activities are termed by the group as fidayeen attacks, which are basically a form of suicide attacks. India has been facing Pakistan sponsored terrorism, through non-state actors such as the LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), that enjoy the support of the state and its intelligence agency. The JeM along with other radical groups exploited public sentiments on the discreet manner in which the hanging took place strengthening its anti-India stance. Post the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, the LeT was founded in 1990 and began its operations against India ever. The JeM, translated into ‘Army of Mohammad’ was created in the year 2000, formed out of the terrorist organisation Harkat ul Mujahideen (HuM). The HuM had similar goals to that of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa, but belonged to the Deobandi school of thought. The objective of establishing JeM is known to aggregate the Deobandi pan-Islamic militants in Jammu and Kashmir.
