ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the various real-life examples and deals with poor planning. Poor planning was the main cause of the initial failures of renewable energy projects. In South Arica, the excellent cooperation between Microsoft and the local communities as discussed on “Digital Villages” could be recommended as a solution to the problem of establishing cooperation and partnership between communities and foreign companies and even with local government organizations. Projects in developing countries have to be planned, designed and executed to accommodate the deficiencies in infrastructure in the locality, and poor knowledge of project management of the recipient user organisations. Most of the failures were recorded as a result of lack of skills, poor planning and absence of project management training. Indeed, most failures are traceable to these causes. A probable reason for failure could be the absence of project management office to provide appropriate practice of project management and sustainability.
