ABSTRACT

An important aspect of success and sustainability of project deliverables is their operation and maintenance. This is necessary to enable the benefits and values of the deliverables to be harvested. Organisations often have multiple project deliverables to release to customers and business units. There should be effective communication between the two teams. Moreover, the project schedule should contain transition documentation tasks to communicate the processes and procedures required for application support. Inventory requirements for maintenance and replacement items will vary with each project and depend on the nature of the project, the extent of utilisation of particular parts or materials and the speed with which such items can be replaced. Design timelines for developing and implementing maintenance plan components including persons responsible for various aspects of maintenance such as support strategy, change management strategies, administration and miscellaneous issues.
