ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews the historical engagement of south and south Asian minorities' in political affairs, which responded to the changing political context of Hong Kong, from its colonial setting to the return to China. Discussing the colonial history of Hong Kong with reference to the racial politics in neighbouring areas of Asia, it hopes to shed light on the role of colonization in the formulation of racialization/racial discrimination against South and South East Asians in the region. This chapter also gave an unprecedented review of the political engagement of second-generation South Asians in Hong Kong since the 1997 handover.
