ABSTRACT
Chapter 1 covers research assumptions and methods applied in the book to present, discuss, analyse, and evaluate the European regulatory framework along with relevant laws and policies of the EU-28 as a whole, and of its Member States individually. This part of the book provides a basic overview of combined heat and power, its features, and role in the energy sector. This refers to definitions of cogeneration, classifications of CHP, and divisions which describe and categorise combined heat and power. Chapter 1 explains the difference between energy efficiency and energy savings, evaluates matters related to technologies applied in the CHP industry, juxtaposes their efficiency, and addresses the environmental and economic matters related to CHP.
