ABSTRACT
Beginning with an introduction to various measures, this chapter is devoted to various features of age and sex composition of population based on the latest data. The chapter also examines the process of age transition in terms of ‘population ageing’ and ‘youth bulge’ with particular focus on India. With reference to India, the chapter particularly discusses trends in female-male ratio and its determinants. Deterioration in sex ratio among children gets special treatment in the chapter.
