ABSTRACT

Culture is the intersection between how people interact with one another and how they respond to change, which results in a set of behavioral norms and shared values. It's easy to be unaware of culture because it's everywhere, making it invisible, hard to address, and challenging to change. Culture also plays a more subliminal role in onboarding and indoctrinating people into an organization or team. This power is exerted through the joint consciousness and consensus of large numbers of people. These are the unspoken values and expectations of the organization which ideally are aligned to the spoken value. Since culture usually develops and evolves without conscious intent, it becomes difficult to challenge, shift, or discuss. A culture driven by purpose values idealism and altruism. These are companies where employees are passionate about making a difference in the world, contributing to the greater good. The atmosphere is tolerant and compassionate.
