ABSTRACT

The vision people create for their Electronic Health Record (EHR) governance should be an inspired picture of the future that is appealing to their stakeholders and easy to communicate. This vision typically transcends the data that is used to support official documents such as their IT road map and is more about the overarching direction in which the organization needs to move to create and support strong EHR governance. According to a 1996 Harvard Business Review article by James Collins and Jerry Porras, the two components of any lasting vision are core ideology and an envisioned future. At the heart of the user-centric, consensus-driven governance framework is the decision-making body that operates according to parliamentary procedure with no line item vetoes. EHR change requests were submitted to routing from a variety of constituents including clinical informaticists, optimization projects, pharmacy, and more.
