ABSTRACT

The first rule of communication is that there is no such thing as overcommunication. Do it early, do it often. Communication is not a one-and-done deal. Remember, different people like to be communicated with in different ways so utilize different types of tools and both synchronous and asynchronous delivery methods. Once people have committed to a strong communication strategy, it's time to hone specific skills that can successfully communicate their Electronic Health Record governance processes. In her book The Power of Presence, Kristi Hedges points to five specific interaction types that should be mastered: creating an intentional presence, being able to get buy-in, delivering executive briefings, connecting with distributed teams through digital resources, and giving and receiving direct feedback. Expertise is knowledge in a particular area. When people feel uncertain, they typically look to experts to guide their decisions. Communication comes in both word and deed.
