ABSTRACT

Foley artists can have frustrating experiences with mixers, and navigating a project can become difficult. On a Foley stage, the artist(s) and mixer are spending day after day in a dark room, making noises for a film or episodic series for a supervisor who may have a short postproduction sound schedule or one that includes many film editing changes. Trust between artist and mixer ensures that all challenges are easier and more expeditious, with as little conflict as possible. Thus, it is important at this point to address the role of the Foley mixer in detail and explain how the mixer can best support and work in concert with the Foley artists assigned to the show. Additionally, it is essential for the Foley artist to understand how to be the best partner for the mixer. Robert Deschaine is one of the most experienced mixers around and also one of the most empowering.
