ABSTRACT

The basis of Public Service Logic (PSL) is to view the inter-relationship between the production and consumption of public services and the ways in which value is created, or destroyed for public service stakeholders, through these processes. In particular, it has focused upon the design/co-design and production/co-production of public services and the relationship of these processes to the creation/co-creation of value for the key stakeholders of such services. These processes have been related to the creation of three dimensions of value for these stakeholders: value-in-production, value-in-use, and value-in-context. PSL has developed an innovative approach to understanding public services that has significant import for both research about public services and the development of theory based on this research. PSL has profound implications for the delivery of public services and for public service managers.
