ABSTRACT

The main objective of this chapter is twofold: (1) to move beyond simply reviewing research on geographic variations in incidence and prevalence rates of lethal and non-lethal interpersonal variants of woman abuse and (2) to extend the coverage of the extant empirical literature to materials published outside of the US and Australia. This chapter definitively proves that rural woman abuse research is far more international in scope than it was when the first scholarly article on this social problem was published in 1992. Key risk factors, too, are examined.
