ABSTRACT

The Boeing Company, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, USA, is an American multinational corporation known for producing commercial airplanes with spotless safety records. Every formal organization of prescribed jobs and structural relationships includes an informal organization characterized by unofficial rules, procedures, and interconnections. This informal organization arises as employees make spontaneous, unauthorized changes in the way things are done. In the process of helping to create a mutual understanding of organizational life, organizational culture fulfills four basic functions. Deep within the culture of every organization is a collection of fundamental norms and values that shape members’ behaviors and help them understand the surrounding organization. In companies like DuPont, cultural norms and values emphasize the importance of discovering new materials or technologies and developing them into new products. Often, organizational ceremonies incorporate various rites, or ceremonial activities meant to send particular messages or accomplish specific purposes.
