ABSTRACT

In this chapter we focus on creating a vision for desired outcomes. Methods used included several possible methods for brainstorming. Sometimes groups get stuck for a variety of reasons, including fear, lack of trust, situational blindness and staying in the linear, analytical mode when the creative mode is needed. The facilitator needs to be flexible and aware of when this happens. It helps to have a co-facilitator or an invited observer to note things happening among participants that the facilitator may miss. Then the facilitator can adjust the agenda and the approach to visioning to get the creative juices flowing when the group bogs down. A facilitator never knows where a meeting or a project will go and should remain open to possibilities that emerge in the moment.
