ABSTRACT

Communications can include an issue awareness campaign, promoting interest and participation in the change initiative by community members. It is important in the awareness campaign to promote understanding, acceptance and commitment to implement the change in the community. In this chapter we cover communications through personal emissary work, word of mouth, news or promotional stories online, in print or other media. Your team will want to create a comprehensive plan to communicate your message to the community. Effective communications plans are developed using the purpose, audience, message and the methods used to get the message out. Finally, when the communications are implemented, you will want to monitor their effectiveness and improve them where possible.
