ABSTRACT

There are key times when data should be collected, such as at the beginning of a project, when assessing needs or opportunities and when you need to gauge progress. This does not necessarily mean when the project ends, but it might be when a funder or sponsor needs to see data on the effectiveness of a project. The chapter discusses two kinds of evaluation: formative and summative. It covers: creating a list of steps to carry out your evaluation, planning and implementing an evaluation of the process or outcomes of your project, locating existing data that will provide information for your desired outcomes, and describing observation checklists, surveys and interviews.
