ABSTRACT

This chapter covers how to reflect on your own buttons and biases so you can avoid those pitfalls and maintain your neutrality during facilitation, touching briefly on using mindfulness or relaxation techniques to clear your mental space and calm yourself before a meeting. Finally, we cover providing neutral guidance, listening deeply and creating a physical, emotional and intellectual space where people can come together, think, speak freely and make decisions together. This will be addressed in greater depth in later chapters. The emphasis on reflection leads facilitators to examine the situation more closely before designing action planning. Each step will be given full treatment in this section:

Calling a meeting.

Clear your mental space.

Getting to know you.
