ABSTRACT

In the spirit of offering teachers and educators continued education, Chapter 6 discusses some of the most typical issues related to sex and sexuality that come up, not necessarily while teaching comprehensive sex education, but while teaching in the special education classroom. Topics include hygiene, erections, masturbation or touching one’s private parts, undressing, misunderstandings, sexual comments, unwanted touching (or being touched), stalking behaviors, not responding to no, and accidentally revealing sexual assault or abuse. While the author offers lessons drawn from her experience, the chapter integrates the advice of other experienced teachers as well.
