ABSTRACT

Chapters 5 and 6 draw from the challenges the psychoanalyst faces in the time of Covid-19. Chapter 5 is divided into four sections: the first, a consideration of Bollas’s notion of self experience against a backdrop of object relations and what Bollas terms subject relations; the second, on Bollas’s reflections on the viral Real and its impact on the psychoanalytic setting; the third, a clinical narrative on how Covid-19 imposed itself on an on-going psychoanalysis; and, lastly, a reflection on why the setting must be altered, temporarily, at least, in the face of the pandemic.
