ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a rule for learning tricky spellings. The rule states that the letter y’s sound can only be heard at the beginning of a word, e.g. yum and yellow. The chapter presents an exercise for learners to read out loud some words starting with 'y' by using the rule. It provides clues and pictures to help the learners to spell some words starting with 'y' by using the rule. The chapter also includes an activity for the learners to rewrite some words into the correct order in a sentence by adding missing ‘y’ word to complete the sentence.
