ABSTRACT

For analysts to create impact with data analytics, the communication of the results is crucial. We strongly believe in the combination of data, storytelling, and visualization. These three elements should strengthen each other in such a way that the information has an impact. This chapter discusses how to build up a good storyline in analytical reports and presentations and how strong visualization can be achieved. It explores how to recognize and avoid the misinterpretation of information by discussing some common misleading graphs. The chapter focuses on why many analytical projects with strong data and analytics fail to have an impact. It is important to work in analytical teams where effective communication skills are embedded in the team. To find the right chart type, it is important to know that there are four core types in visualizing data: showing a relationship between data points, comparing data points, showing the composition of data, and showing the distribution of data.
