ABSTRACT

This article recounts some of the key details of the homicide case against Joseph Blunt, which was later described in the Old Bailey Proceedings of 12 December and the Ordinary’s account of 6 October (see below). The murder occurred on the 3rd of September, and the details outlined here are in keeping with those of subsequent publications, demonstrating its accuracy, though it must be acknowledged that all of these publications had a tendency to favour the prosecution. Blunt’s claims that the gun had gone off accidentally are not reflected in this report. This murder, described more fully in the examples below, reveals the frustration that could result when the army came between a couple and threatened their ability to remain together.
