ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 serves as the theoretical foundation for the book as a whole. By discussing and juxtaposing the capabilities approach, psychological capital, human capacities, conservation of resources, total human capital and well-being, the authors establish a new conceptual framework of migration-impacted informal human capital (MigCap), which consists of four intersecting components: mind or cognitive skills; soft or (inter)personal skills; maker or manual skills; and life skills, which relate to concerns about well-being and work and life satisfaction. This conceptual framework of MigCap is examined and tested in the subsequent chapters.
