ABSTRACT

The aim of Chapter 4 is to profile migrants from two geographical sites located on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean and, indeed, the world: Mexico and Central Europe. This is achieved using illustrative cases from Poland, Slovakia and Lithuania. The chapter also presents a brief overview of the history of Mexican migration to the USA and back as well as migration from Central to Western Europe and back. We used unique data for each location, as well as OECD comparative data for Mexico and the selected Central European countries, through which we compared the formal human capital of migrants in relation to gender, age, education and employment status.
