ABSTRACT

In considering whether oil-engendered development is a viable proposition in light of our findings, this chapter examines the prospects and pitfalls of the oil–development nexus in Ghana. As the concluding chapter, we also summarize our findings to reiterate how simplistic understandings of “curse” or “blessing” fail to identify and appreciate the broader assemblage of actors, networks, and structures that inform the manifestations and outcomes of the hydrocarbon industry. Drawing upon feedback received from interviews and focus groups during field research, as well as the authors’ own interpretation of the data, this chapter also reflects on potential future directions for research and policy focused work on the resource–development nexus.
