ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the process of submitting drafts to students’ advisor and responding to their advisor’s feedback. It offers guidance for the construction of manuscript drafts that include tables and figures. Small errors in the drafts will detract from its potential impact and increase the likelihood that students' advisor will request additional revisions. Without careful preparation of students’ drafts, their advisor’s attention will be diverted to errors in their production rather than to their intriguing ideas, erudite concepts, and stellar hypotheses. The purpose of tables and figures is to communicate to readers, more clearly than is possible by text alone, important and complex aspects of students' dissertation. Tables and figures should clearly communicate information that would be cumbersome to present in text form. Before submitting the first draft, students need to talk with their advisor about the likely time frames for revisions, edits, and feedback.
