Our conclusion addresses Huntington’s “Clash of Civilizations” theory, which remains an influential approach to contemporary conflicts. “Clash of Civilizations” assumes that Muslim societies are united around Islam and as a consequence operate in concert against the West. By placing this approach side by side with ours, we bring our arguments into sharper relief. Based on the differences within Islam that were outlined in this study, and the shared view between moderate fundamentalists and Western entities regarding the world order, we call for cooperation between moderate fundamentalists and Western entities, in their battle against the militants.
