ABSTRACT

Jeff Wayne's The War of The Worlds: The Immersive Experience combines music, immersive theatre, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality, holograms and other cutting-edge technology to give audiences the chance to live through the Martian invasion of 1898. The narrative of the experience was written to follow the H.G. Wells book faithfully as well as Wayne's album, and it invites the audience to become part of the storyverse and visit its places and experience the events described within first hand. In the experience, the audience becomes a citizen that is trying to escape the Martians with the setup being that they follow ‘The Journalist’, George and his wife Carrie who recount the 1898 invasion, which happened several years prior. Audiences share the experience in a group of up to 12 people. They are led to a variety of environments either with the help of VR headsets or actual actors in detailed Victorian costumes.
